  1. Dan Davis Celebration of Life – Offsite – Saturday, January 6th at 1:00 PM

From Dan’s Family: It’s with both sadness and joy that we announce the passing of Daniel John Davis (Dan) who departed peacefully from this world in the presence of his family on December 6, 2023 at age 86. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, a loyal friend, and a beloved minister to many.

The Celebration of Lifel service will be offsite on January 6, 2024  1PM at Grace Covenant Church, 9431 Jollyville Rd, Austin, TX 78759. Invite a friend with this invitation video.

The youngest of five, Daniel John Davis was born July 1, 1937 in North Hollywood, California, where his family relocated after hard times on their farm in Nebraska. In his teen years, his folks moved to Monterey, California where Dan fell in love with the raw beauty of the wild coastal landscapes which looked out over the vastness of the Pacific.

Upon graduating, he and a buddy flipped a coin to see which way their future lay — heads would take them to San Francisco, tails to L.A. Fortunately, it came up tails which meant (1) Dan would soon meet a striking 20 year-old girl who’d catch his eye when he visited Santa Monica Foursquare church, (2) the two would marry four months later after a high-speed car chase and whirlwind courtship, and (3) they’d soon welcome daughter, Denise Lynn followed by son Jeffrey John.

Over the next sixty years, Dan covered quite a distance professionally. Starting out on the ground floor of the burgeoning computer industry, he quickly made his way into management. After a successful career as an executive with Motorola and Intel, Dan underwent a series of life events, culminating in 1981 with a new vocation—Senior Pastor for a thriving new church in Austin named Hope Chapel.

From the beginning, God placed a vision in his heart for the city of Austin, one best summed up in his own words: “There is only one church in the city! It meets in many places, but it is only one church.” As his influence grew among pastors, this idea began to take hold. Today Austin is blessed with remarkable unity among pastors. As Hope Chapel grew, it spawned a number of satellite churches in the U.S. as well as overseas missions.

In his retirement years, Dan realized a life-long desire to live in the Pacific Northwest near his son and wife Alison. He is survived by Joann, his beloved wife and companion for 65 years, children Denise and Jeff, his grandchildren, Daniel, Ashley, and Alena, and his great-grandson, Owen, who he held in his arms, fulfilling yet another of the deep desires of his heart.

  5. Dan Davis Passed Away

With deep sorrow we tell you that our founding pastor and great friend, Dan Davis, passed away this morning (December 7, 2023) in the hospital in WA. It was sudden and we are still reeling from the reality. At an emergency room visit last weekend, blood work revealed very high white blood cell count. It was diagnosed as a blood cancer. Things happened quickly, and Thursday morning the 7th he passed away peacefully at the hospital.

We invite you to join us in mourning our loss of a great friend and leader in our lovely community (and surely beyond). Please pray for dear Joann, his wife, their son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Alison who are there with her, and daughter and son-in-law, Denise & Scott, and the extended family as they grieve and process his life and passing.

Thank you for your love and care for us all.

Dan would want you all to know how much he loved Hope Chapel and how proud he was of us as a community.”

From Jack Dorman, Worship Leader for 40+ years and leading still, former Senior Pastor of 10 years, Hopite since the beginning.

The Celebration of Life for Dan is on Saturday,  January 6th at 1:00 PM at Grace Covenant Church. Find the details of the service here.
