  1. Titus 2: Teach Sound Doctrine. Be clear.  Christ is life for the broken world.

    Teach Sound Doctrine (ESV)

1But as for you, teach what accords with sounda doctrine. 2Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness. 3Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, 4and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, 5to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled. 6Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled. 7Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, 8and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us. 9Bondservantsb are to be submissive to their own masters in everything; they are to be well-pleasing, not argumentative, 10not pilfering, but showing all good faith, so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior.

We want to point to the exalted Christ.  He is highly exalted.  Because the Gospel is precious.  The message we bare is that important.  We proclaim Christ and he’s the one who saves people.  Jesus Christ is precious.  The grass fades and the flower withers but the Word of our God stands forever.  Be clear.  Christ is life for the broken world.

  2. Christian Leadership: Instruct with Sound Doctrine, Rebuke False Teachers

    Titus 1:10-16

10 For there are many unruly men, vain talkers and deceivers, especially they of the circumcision, 11 whose mouths must be stopped; men who overthrow whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake. 12 One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said,

Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, idle [i]gluttons.

13 This testimony is true. For which cause reprove them sharply, that they may be [j]sound in the faith, 14 not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men who turn away from the truth. 15 To the pure all things are pure: but to them that are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but both their mind and their conscience are defiled. 16 They profess that they know God; but by their works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

  3. Great Christian Leadership: Begin with The Who and Not The What

Great business leaders begin with The Who. Paul in Titus 1:5-9 tells Titus to set things in order and carefully choose the right people to lead the church.

    Titus 1:5-9

    Qualifications for Elders

This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained into order, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you— if anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife,[a] and his children are believers[b] and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination. For an overseer,[c] as God’s steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound[d] doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.

  4. Eternal Life: Stepping into the Eternal Work of God

Sharing the Good News of Jesus is stepping into the eternal work of the eternal God.  How exciting!  The eternal nature of the Word of God.  Sharing the Gospel is the expression of the eternal work of God.

The reliability of the Word (the Gospel of Truth):  wherever it has been shared in the world the church has manifest.

    Titus: Faith, Knowledge, Hope

    Titus 1:1-3 Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the sake of the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth, which accords with godliness, in hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began and at the proper time manifested in his word through the preaching with which I have been entrusted by the command of God our Savior;

1:4 To Titus:  my true child in a common faith.

The spirit of God is calling you to come home.

  5. Reorienting in an Age of Disorientation

    Pray and Read the Scriptures.

    1 John

God’s light shines – that is how we see him.

He reveals himself – that is how He’s known.

He loved us – that is how we know love.

  6. Grounding pt. 1

Pray and Read the Scriptures.  Why? Pray, not for a meditative grounding exercise.  Pray because of the one we are praying to.  Pray to God because He is our Shepherd.  He hears us.  He is really the only one who knows how to still the anxieties of our hearts.  To give us grace in the midst of difficult living.
