Find a Hope Group

Hope GroupsRead more about why we have Hope Groups here.

At Hope Chapel, everyone’s family!

If you go to Hope, you’re Family! We encourage you to be a part of a Hope Group. We have Hope Groups scattered throughout Austin throughout the week; look below to find one that fits you!

Many of our Hope Groups meet during Family Night which occurs Wednesday nights at Hope Chapel. Everyone is welcome: bring the kids, your roommate, or come alone to meet with one of the small groups, from 6-7:30 p.m. We have programs for children from ages 0 through middle school, along with groups for adults.

Family Night runs weekly through May 8, except for spring break (March 13) and Holy Week (March 27). For childcare availability, reach out to Joelene Michel at michel.joelene@gmail.com

Reach out to one of our Family Night Groups or another Hope Group that meets throughout the week around the city!

Family Night Hope Groups

These groups meet during Family Night at Hope Chapel on Wednesdays. While adults participate in their Hope Groups, kids 5th grade and under take part in Wednesday Night Kids’ Club and junior high students meet in the Lighthouse.

Tompkins Hope Group

Wednesdays, 6-7:30 p.m. at Hope Chapel, room 203

This is an open group for all ages, married or single. Our group’s focus is Bible Study. This year we will study the book of Romans using the guide by NT Wright.

If you are looking for encouragement in your walk with Christ or need a better method of studying the Bible, please join us on Wednesdays at Hope Chapel. There is homework each week.

Prayer for Awakening

Wednesdays, 6-7:30 p.m. at Hope Chapel, Sanctuary (Main Auditorium)

Each week, this group gathers to pray for God to move in our midst at Hope Chapel and in our city – Unto Revival in our land and Jesus’ Return!

We want to know Him more deeply and walk with Him more intimately. We want to walk in the gifts of the Spirit and always make time to pray for one another and for what God’s doing at Hope Chapel.

Led by: Joelene and Michael Michel

"The Artist's Way" Book Study

Wednesdays, 6-7:30 p.m at Hope Chapel, Arts Studio

Would you like to be more creative, but feel blocked?

Did you enjoy art as a child, and would like to give it another try?

Does the idea of “living life more fully through the practice of an art” sound nice, but you don’t know how?

The Artist’s Waybook study may be for you!

We’ll be meeting during Family night (Every Wednesday) 6- 7:30 p.m. So if you’re interested in some “spiritual chiropractic “ and learning how to “let yourself be an artist”, come to our introductory meeting September 13th, 6-7:30 p.m. and learn all about it!

Women of Hope Discipleship Class (on hiatus)

Wednesdays, 6-7:30 p.m at Hope Chapel, Room 205

This is a simple class designed for women who are unfamiliar with reading scripture but desire to understand it and read it more. You can be new to faith in Christ, deciding if this is what you believe, or a believer who just never really learned to read scripture. This is a space for you to learn and grow with us.

Here’s what we’ll be covering:

  • Reading through the gospel of John
  • Learning what the gospel of John says about God
  • Learning how it relates to the old testament scriptures in the bible
  • Learning how to invite the Holy Spirit to lead us in reading and interpreting scripture.

Requirements:

  • Women only
  • A commitment to attend weekly groups
  • Read assigned passages from the book of John during the week
  • Pray and journal about what you’ve read each time you read

Contact Lisette or Lisa for more information.

Tech-Wise (ended March 6)

Wednesdays, 6-7:30 p.m at Hope Chapel, Room 205

In this 14-week study, we will be using Andy Crouch’s Tech-Wise video series as a springboard to explore and discuss important questions, such as:

  • What is the “life we’re looking for” and how do we attain it?
  • What is the proper place of technology for the lives of Christians? How should we approach it?
  • How did we get to a point where technological devices are everywhere?
  • What are family and church for, especially today? Where does technology fit?

Crouch’s core takeaway is that we are “heart-soul-mind-strength complexes designed for love,” deriving this description from the Shema Israel, found in Deuteronomy 6:4-9.

The syllabus is available here, which goes into more detail about this group.

Interested in joining? Questions? Reach out to me at evan@hope.org (And be sure to work with Joelene if you need childcare)

Bible Overview (cancelled)

Wednesdays, 6-7:30 p.m at Hope Chapel, Room 206

Whether you’re approaching the Bible for the first time ever, or you’ve been doing Bible study for a very long time, the group’s focus will be to learn to map what you’re hearing, reading, or learning to the general narrative of Scripture. This could include figuring out for yourself how a sermon, Bible study, or Scripture reference fits into the overall structure of the Bible.

The format will be to watch a video averaging fourteen minutes in length followed by discussion and questions. If time permits, there could be another video and more discussion about the second topic.

There is no homework, but you will probably want to bring something to write on so you can take notes to ask questions later during discussion, or to remember details you’ve learned and don’t want to forget.

This fifteen-week Hope Group will meet Wednesdays, 6-7:30 P.M. at Hope Chapel in Room 206.

Messy Grace Book Discussion & Dinner

Thursdays every other week, 6-8PM

Reading Caleb Kaltenbach’s Messy Grace, South Austin Dinner & Book Discussion Hope Group for ages 18 and up with the Combs and Dooldeniyas

A new Hope Group (ages 18 & up) with dinner & book discussion is starting in South Austin. Join Sarah & Andy Combs and Wendy & Chanaka Dooldeniya on Thursday evenings beginning January 25th from 6-8PM to read and discuss the book, Messy Grace: How a Pastor with Gay Parents Learned to Love Others Without Sacrificing Conviction by Caleb Kaltenbach.

We want to learn God’s heart towards sexuality and sexual union. To discuss, listen, and learn from each other about their experiences with LGBTQ and sexuality (themselves, kids, family members, and friends) while learning how to grow in loving others while not compromising God’s values.

We meet every other Thursday night, also alternating meeting at the Combs and Dooldeniya’s homes with dinner and discussion. Questions or would like to attend? Please contact Sarah Combs or Chanaka Dooldeniya.
